Video for education purposes has come a long way since I was in high school where the only videos and movies I remember watching were Bill Nye and Supersize me. Here’s a trip down memory lane if you remember these iconic videos.
Now The options range from read along books, computer simulations, virtual reality, GIF’s and screen casts. I have made a few YouTube videos documenting my various travels, however I’ll be the first to admit that I stumbled through the process. I will also be the first to admit that for various sections of the videos I am guilty of filming my computer screen to capture whatever I wanted to show… I know now this is called screencast.
I was surprised to learn that screen casting is as easy as downloading a google chrome plug in and hitting play. You can imagine that I felt a little silly after learning how easy this process is. We used a plug-in called Screencastify, which is easily available on the web and offers an easy page selection menu, audio muting and direct downloading to your device or uploading to YouTube. Check out the quick screen cast I made using google earth pro.
